I’m a huge traditional roguelike fan and this game is one of my favorites. Sometimes you’ll start as an archer and find a really nice axe and some heavy armor. Some runs you’ll start as a barbarian, then find a greater fire staff and tome of fire and suddenly you’re a mage. With the number of unique skills and items, and the ways they can interact with a build, you never really know what you’re going to get and that can be very exciting.

It’s got a neat sort of flow to it, and it takes full advantage of the roguelike genre. Fun game with lots of replayablility, it’s designed to be played in short run-thru’s of an hour to two each. Forums and community have done a great job of providing bug feedback and help with balancing mechanics, though the dev has done a great job to start with overall. Archvaleĭev has been working tirelessly to bring to this product to completion. Also the dev has put in a lot of work developing libraries of content that give the sense of always finding something new.

Also the generator throws in room templates that give players a sense of familiarity with each level even though you don’t know the layout. (Each run through is 15 levels base, not including side branches. Dungeons will follow a theme for 5-8 levels before changing to something else, and short branch sections with different themes occur 2-4 times per run through. Also the dungeon level generation is relatively sophisticated. You are not railroad-ed into a character class system in this game. Lot’s of character choices initially and an ability score and skill based development system that let’s you build up how you like. It’s a turn based dungeon adventure crawler with a top down view.

I’ve played this game for literal years now and still enjoy it. The variety of game mechanics, classes and enemies means that you can challenge yourself in many different ways. With enough practice you eventually can beat it fairly consistently. The difficulty isn’t just due to chance though.
